For vertical applications, leadscrews can be designed to self-lock and prevent back driving, unlike traditional ball screws. The nonball leadscrews use a sliding motion between the nut and screw to convert rotary input to linear-output motion. Depending on application requirements, the leadscrews are made with a choice of proprietary coatings — Kerkote and Black Ice dry lubrication coatings eliminate the need for external lubrication and maintenance. Manufactured from 303 stainless steel, the leadscrews come in standard diameters from 1/8 to 15/16 in. with standard leads from 0.02 to 3 in.Also available are application-specific nut features. The customized nuts can be molded using Kerkite high-performance polymers or customer-specified specialty materials.Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions, 1500 Meriden Rd., Waterbury, CT 06705, (203) 756-7441, www.HaydonKerk.com
