IR Sensor For Vertical Or Horizonal Installation

A new optical emitter/phototransistor pair designated the OPB100 features a dc drive current and variable distance sensing up to 1 m.

It can operate with wider gaps while still using its plastic package, making it easy to integrate into a variety of applications. The devices exhibit excellent electrical characteristics with no vibration issues. The 890-nm input diode features forward dc current of 100 mA (peak current of 1.0 A; 1µsec pulse, 330 pps), with reverse dc voltages up to 2.0 V and power dissipation of 142 mW. The output phototransistor has a collector-emitter voltage of 30 V and emitter-collector voltage of 5 V; collector dc current is 50 mA with 250 mW of power dissipation. Operating temperature ranges from 40 to 85°C. The emitter (890-nm LED) and phototransistor are encased in separate opaque plastic housings (UL94-V0) and have universal mounting clips that install onto PC boards or any 0.062-in.-thick material, as well as metal or plastic mounting fixtures. Each component includes 2 ft of 26-awg wire for installation.
