Flexible Organic LEDs

Lexan polycarbonate (PC) films for flexible organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) feature a transparent coating that protects them from oxygen, chemicals, electrical conductivity, and moisture.

The graded organic/inorganic coating is applied using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The 125-m-thick PC substrates are being produced in batch mode but will ultimately be made using a roll-to-roll process to reduce costs. The flexible plastic films are an alternative to conventional glass substrates.
