Plastics Maker Opens New Korean Line
Sabic Innovative Plastics, Pittsfield, Mass., has opened a major production line at its Chung-Ju, Korea facility.

The new line will produce LNP Verton long-glass-fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites which are widely used in the automotive, telecommunications, and appliance industries. The company aims to reduce delivery times for LNP Verton.

“This will let us quickly supply manufacturers and molders in Korea and Asia,” says Alan Leung, Pacific president for Sabic. “These high-performance materials are in great demand as replacements for metal and short-fiber-reinforced plastics.”

The line will run 20 grades of the composite in a variety of resins including polypropylene, poly amide, and PPA. The Chung-Ju plant houses a 40,000-ton high-tech manufacturing system, material-properties testing equipment, and color-matching equipment.

NI Lithium-Ion Battery Measurement
Today's current and future electric vehicles rely on high-power batteries to store the massive amounts of electricity needed to drive many miles on a single charge. These batteries are composed of hundreds or even thousands of individual cells stacked together at voltages over 300V. When designing and building a high voltage battery pack, engineers need to be able to test and measure the individual...
