Color touch display modules from Reach Technology Inc., Fremont, Calif., target embedded products in the medical, industrial, and gaming markets.

The 4-in. TFT modules replace traditional pushbuttons and character displays with a graphical touch interface. Users access detailed menus and help screens rather than wade through cryptic messages to set operating parameters.

The modules program through a standard serial port. Simple, high-level commands build soft switches, knobs, and readouts. Several fonts, latching and typematic buttons, chart and VU-meter-type level bars, and high-level macros, all come standard. Also available is an optional "portrait" mode, custom fonts, and a separate board for field upgrades. The module fits in a standard 2U-high rack-mount enclosure, making it a candidate for test equipment. An evaluation kit includes a power supply and serial cable.
