Maxon Motor allows engineers to customize their own Maxon DC drive by providing a variety of options for motors, gears, and encoders. Each of the sections in a Maxon DC drive can be configured based on the application and output desired. The line of Maxon motors offer precious and graphite configurations that range in maximum torque of 0.94 to 138 Nm. The maximum efficiency increases in concert with increasing motor size. The DCX 35L, for example, offers a max efficiency of 90%. Inertia ranges from 0.07 to 98.6 gcm2.

Maxon gearheads come in an array of styles. Some gearheads offer noise or backlash reduction, while others have a ceramic configuration. The gearheads are available in different gear stages, varying from two, three, or even five stages. The reduction provided by the gearheads ranges from 35:1 to 1526:1 per gearhead for the final stage. The final piece of the Maxon drive is the encoder, which comes in two different sizes—an ENX 10 or 16—and in either easy, quad, or absolute configurations. The encoder counts the number turns performed by the drive.
